Steelers (+3.5) vs. Jaguars — 2 units
Saturday, August 20th, 2022 @ 7:00pm
If you took a moment to read our article about betting on the NFL preseason, you know that we are high on the Steelers in the August showdowns due to their ongoing quarterback battle and their sudden depth at the position with the offseason signing of Mitch Trubisky and drafting of Pitt product Kenny Pickett.
We gave out a free play with the Steelers laying points against Seattle which hit for 2 units. The Steelers’ trio of QB’s – holdover Mason Rudolph included – each threw for a touchdown en route to putting up the 2nd highest point total in the league at 32. Throw in a running game that averaged nearly 7 yards a carry and you’ve got an offense moving the ball far better than a usual preseason team.
No matter the QB in the game for the Steelers against Jacksonville this Saturday, they should be able to move the chains. The Jags cannot say the same. While Trevor Lawrence will see more time in Week 2 than in weeks one or three, he will at some point grab some pine and allow the backups to get some reps. First bit of bad news for the Jags on this front: the quarterback who took the most snaps in last week’s yawner against the Browns… was cut. Now the backups will be CJ Beathard and EJ Perry. Beathard has some experience but Perry, who we have to assume the Jags will want to see get some work, was signed a couple of weeks ago as an undrafted free agent from Brown. This is a guy still learning the playbook.
We imagine the only reason the Jags are favored in this spot is that they have 2 games under their belt vs Pittsburgh’s one and that they are at home. Simply put, the wrong team is favored here. We are thrilled to take 3 with a hook in a game that should be pick’em at worst.
We strongly recommend that you bet this game now, in case news comes out that moves this line back towards the Steelers or sharp bettors start to pound on Pittsburgh.
We see 3.5 across the board, and our friends at Bovada have the Steelers +3.5 at -105. Jump on this line and watch Pittsburgh’s 3 headed monster at QB send the Jags to their third straight preseason loss.
