CFB Week 4: Gameday – Free Hot Picks

Maryland vs Michigan – Over 63.5 (2 units)

Michigan is averaging over 50 points a game in their first three contests, albeit against three of the worst teams in the FBS.  Their defensive numbers are rock solid too, but they simply haven’t been tested at all.  That changes on Saturday when Tua’s little bro Tauila Tagovailoa pays a visit to the Big House.  The younger Tagovailoa likes to push the ball down the field, and he’ll have some success against a Wolverine defense that is replacing 7 starters from the ‘21 D.  Michigan on the other hand should have no problem putting 40+ up on an overmatched Maryland defense.  Last year Big Blue hung 59 on Maryland in College Park.  Bookmaker is dealing a 63.5 and we’re grabbing the over in what should be a track meet.

TCU –2.5 vs. SMU (2 units)

The prevailing storyline in this one is TCU coach Sonny Dykes returning to the scene of the crime, where he ghosted SMU, his previous employer as he ducked out of town on his way to Fort Worth and Texas Christian.  TCU brings back a ton of experience from last year’s squad, including QB Max Duggan and one of the top receiver rooms in the country.  SMU has a gunslinger of their own in Tanner Mordecai.  He isn’t the beneficiary of quite as talented a surrounding cast as Duggan is though.  TCU comes off a bye while SMU dropped a tough game to Maryland 34-27.  This line opened at SMU –1 and we agree with the line movement to TCU –2.5 and we’ll lay the short number with our friends at BetOnline.

Charlotte +23.5 vs. South Carolina (2 units)

Charlotte’s defense is not good.  South Carolina will certainly move the ball behind former Sooner Spencer Rattler, but here’s the rub.  Charlotte is going to score too.  Charlotte had to play without injured QB Chris Reynolds in losses to William and Mary and Maryland, but he returned last week to lead his team to a 42-41 win over Georgia State.  Reynolds and friends will attack a South Carolina defense that has been ravaged by injuries, as the Gamecocks come in off a physical blowout loss to Georgia.  This one will be high scoring, but we think Charlotte can keep it within the number.  We see a 23.5 at Bovada now and we’re on it.
