World Cup 2022 (11/25): Can Team USA Pull off the Upset?

England vs. USA — Game Analysis

England went undefeated during the group qualifying stage and scored 39 goals along the way. That offensive firepower carried over in Game #1 of the group stage against Iran, winning comfortably by a score of 6-2. On the other side, the USMNT should be pretty upset about letting their Game #1 lead slip away after being up 1-0 for over 80 minutes against Wales. Team USA had over 66% of the possession time in the first half and probably should’ve had more goals, but they struggled to break down Wales’ defense until Tim Weah took advantage of his opportunity right before halftime.

The USMNT hasn’t beaten England in 72 years, which does not bode too well for their chances of a victory on Friday afternoon, so a draw should therefore be seen as an excellent outcome for this American squad. We think this could be an incredibly entertaining match between Team USA and England, with the potential for plenty of goals.
