When it comes to betting the preseason, the handicap is simple, but much different than the regular season. We keep our eye out for coaches who prioritize winning over simply evaluating. Next, we look for cases where one team’s quarterback rotation looks to be superior to the other team’s. The coaching matchup looks to be a wash, but we see a clear advantage for the Jets in the QB rotation on Thursday night in Canton. (Check out our video on betting preseason NFL here.)
The Browns top 2 quarterbacks, Deshaun Watson and Joshua Dobbs will sit this one out, leaving starting duties to Kellen Mond. This is not good news for Browns backers. We’ll be surprised if Mond ultimately makes this Browns team. Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson will likely get most of the 2nd half snaps.
While Aaron Rogers won’t make his Jets debut Thursday, the signal callers behind him are more than capable. Robert Saleh’s Jets will turn to the trio of Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle, and Chris Streveler. Wilson will be looking to prove himself this preseason after a disappointing 2022 campaign. Streveler, though, is the wildcard here as he was a preseason phenom for the Jets last year.
We’ll take what we see as a solid advantage in the Jets QB rotation. This game has steamed from the Browns being favored by two to the Jets being favored by 1.5. We’ll lay it here and thank God football is back!
